#INDIEBOOKFEST2015ORLANDO ~ Defined by Others Paperback release.

One of my favorite reviews

5Fascinating story line  on December 12, 2014

What would it take to corrupt someone and break their spirit, drive them to commit crimes and go insane? Pondering these deep questions, venturing into my own soul, is what I’m left with after putting down, MCV Egan’s, brilliant and cleverly written new age saga. What would or could possibly drive a group of 47 year old women to vengeful madness? Can we blame menopausal hormone changes; inherent psychological or post-traumatic stress incident predispositions; fear and denial of aging; or perhaps a mid-life crisis? Certainly any one of these, all of these, or other factors enter into the equation. It takes very intelligent writing to get a reader to a place of really having a look at themselves; but as the author so astutely states toward the end, in the narrative reflection, “can I get to know and forgive, look in the mirror and feel love,” and poignantly she points out, “it’s in there,” one cannot help but self-reflect.
What starts out with the death of a High School friend, Amanda, two of the main characters, Anne and Connie, get together to further the plan of the deceased; to hack cyberspace, make up fake accounts, and dupe other High School friends. The only reasoning is it’s for the forwarding of the challenge posed by the deceased, Amanda. But is that all? Intertwined in the plot is ostensible heartache and betrayal as we learn that Anne’s husband, Frank, and Connie’s husband, Mike, have become lovers. It would make sense then that from this raw vulnerable place they would be justified to embark on furthering Amanda’s sick cyber game of trumped up romance connections with innocent victims.
Whether it’s the pot smoking duo, tainted cookies, (aka: cookie mickey), the inner drive toward friends and to belong at all costs, finding love, and fear of losing it, something is driving the deceit and it is in this curiosity that the glue to the story is woven together with to make it a compelling read. This is a clever story with metaphysical new age scenes, current social medial insertions, and all that makes it ring contemporary. As the plot is carried along to the last and shocking ending, when the last page arrives and is shut it’s hard to stop thinking of this story. That’s the mark of really good writing.

M.C.V. Egan is the pen name chosen by Maria Catalina Vergara Egan. Catalina was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1959, the sixth of eight children, in a traditional Catholic family. From a very young age, she became obsessed with the story of her maternal grandfather, Cesar Agustin Castillo--mostly the story of how he died. She spent her childhood in Mexico. When her father became an employee of The World Bank in Washington D.C. in the early 1970s, she moved with her entire family to the United States. Catalina was already fluent in English, as she had spent one school year in the town of Pineville, Louisiana with her grandparents. There she won the English award, despite being the only one who had English as a second language in her class. In the D.C. suburbs she attended various private Catholic schools and graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland in 1977. She attended Montgomery Community College, where she changed majors every semester. She also studied in Lyons, France, at the Catholic University for two years. In 1981, due to an impulsive young marriage to a Viking (the Swedish kind, not the football player kind), Catalina moved to Sweden where she resided for five years and taught at a language school for Swedish, Danish, and Finnish businesspeople. She then returned to the USA, where she has lived ever since. She is fluent in Spanish, English, French and Swedish. Maria Catalina Vergara Egan is married and has one son who, together with their five-pound Chihuahua, makes her feel like a full-time mother. Although she would not call herself an astrologer she has taken many classes and taught a few beginner classes in the subject.

A DECENT WOMAN by ELEANOR PARKER SAPIA

www.eleanorparkersapia.com

Playa de Ponce, Puerto Rico, at the turn of the century:
Ana Belén Opaku, an Afro-Cuban born into slavery, is a proud midwife with a tempestuous past. After testifying at an infanticide trial, Ana is forced to reveal a dark secret from her past, but continues to hide an even more sinister one. Pitted against the parish priest, Padre Vicénte, and young Doctór Héctor Rivera, Ana must battle to preserve her twenty-five year career as the only midwife in town.
Serafina is a respectable young widow with two small children who marries an older wealthy merchant from a distinguished family. A crime against Serafina during her last pregnancy forever bonds her to Ana in an ill-conceived plan to avoid a scandal, and preserve Serafina’s honor, her new marriage, and her place in the world.

K.R. Fajardo. ~ K The Awakening ~

K: The Awakening is a novel containing two parallel story lines that eventually merge into one. As of 7/12/2015 an updated version has been released that is professionally edited.

Mikel and his daughter Citera live in and run a medical clinic in the small town of Vicaris. It is a mostly happy and fulfilling life, but like most everything in Vanteria, it is not without its risks. Being a free medical clinic that serves not only the Terrians, but the enslaved Full-bloods as well, they are constantly being harassed by the Shadows' forces.

But despite the danger, when Rigar, a Full-blood and close friend of Mikel's, shows up at the back door with the emaciated body of a young lady, he makes the difficult decision to put his life on the line to protect her. Unbeknownst to him, this one act of random kindness will forever change the world as he sees it as he and his family and friends find themselves trust into the midst of an ancient feud that will eventually decide the fate of Vanteria once and for all.

The Enforcer has served as the Shadows right hand for nearly fifty years. Using violence and fear, it is his job to ensure the Full-bloods never succeed in uniting against the Shadows. But years of killing have left him a hollow shell of a man on the verge of being consumed by the darkness he serves.

Until one night, after a routine inspection of a clinic in Vicaris, fate lands him in the presence of a captivating young beauty named Maya. A girl who imbeds herself into his mind with her sweet demeanor and calming touch. But when her father lies to the Shadows, using Maya to back up the claim, the Enforcer is ordered to arrest them both and bring them back to the Tower for execution.

The Enforcer must make a difficult decision. Ignore the orders of the Shadows, knowing the suffering their wrath would bring down upon him. Or bring back the young beauty who treated him with more compassion than he had experienced in fifty years.

He has only two weeks to decide what he is going to do.

K.R. Fajardo  is a married mother with 3 children who works part-time as a IMC nurse, I soon found myself with an a lot of extra time on my h...and when my youngest started school 2 years ago. I considered going back to college and getting my master's degree for a minute(literally) but quickly decided that was not the path that was right for me.

So what to do with all this free time? Take up a hobby of course. Only needlepoint and crocheting aren't really my thing. Then the idea hit me, write a story! I have always had a wild imagination, and one character in particular had been rolling around in my mind since I was in high school.

The start was slow. However, little by little the story began to build and the further along I progressed the more excited I became. Once finished I decided to let a few people read my story, which had ended up being over 300 pages long! That was one of the hardest things I have ever done. It felt like I was exposing a side of myself that no one else knew about and the thought that they might not like it, or that they would think I was totally crazy, scared me to death.

I turned out to be pleasantly surprised, they loved it. And more and more people began to give me positive feedback. Now K: The Awakening is available on Amazon for all to enjoy. The second installment will be out in the fall of 2015(and I think it is even better than the first). So please check it out and if you enjoy it leave a review so it can find its way to more people!!

EXCERPT

            “Silence,” David commanded.
Her throat continued to work, but no sound emerged. She felt like a fish being gutted, choking and spluttering as David returned to the work of cutting into the soft, sensitive flesh of her belly. Yet even as tears refilled her eyes and fear devoured her heart, some part of her recognized that her guts remained intact. Whatever David was doing to her with the dagger involved tracing shallow patterns across the surface of her skin.
Fight the pain. Take deep breaths. Ground and center. She was not in the empty living room of a house she had not quite moved into yet, she was at church, singing in the choir. Above her, Jesus hung from a cross, a crown of thorns atop his head, a soft glow surrounding him. She usually found the magic within that glow. She reached for it...
“Stop that!” David slapped her hard across the face.
Once again her eyes flew open. She saw the dagger dripping with blood – her blood. Had her feeble grab for magic actually made a difference? David seemed to have noticed something, but what?
“You're just making this harder on yourself,” David said.
“What do you want?” Madison tried to ask. Her mouth moved, her lips forming the question, but no sound emerged.
She didn't think he would answer; he couldn't even have heard the question, but to her surprise he only hesitated a moment before saying, “Your soul.”

My first  is  an author and a friend, I have learned so much from her. She makes impressive video interviews and helps other authors, she is funny, witty and kind. I am hooked on her ETERNAL CURSE SERIES

❤ ❤ ❤

Here I am with a Toi Thomas  GREATEST FAN T-SHIRT

Toi Thomas❤ ❤ ❤

Spend time with Toi Thomas at etoithomas.com  or on facebook  and twitter but for now, here's her story.

Toinette "Toi" Thomas was born and raised in Texas where she learned to appreciate the grandeur of things in life. She was raised by her loving mother Navonia and her stepfather Dennis, along with her older sister Tori. Early in her life, Toi could understand and appreciate things that other kids her age couldn't. She understood that her family wasn't perfect, but that it was perfect for her.

Growing up, Toi was a bit of a tomboy, but was not without poise and grace. She loved to play outside, to build and break things, to dance and write, and to read. Some of her favorite books as a youngster were Horton Hears a Who, The Little Train that Could, and anything Curious George. Toi also studied dance as a child and began her love of cooking at the age of five. By the time she was in third grade, Toi could prepare a full hot breakfast on her own. It was also during these early years that her love of movies and music developed. She would scan the radio for hours trying to get a glimpse at all the different types of expression that traveled the airwaves. Her favorite movies growing up were The Wizard of Oz, The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and anything with Shirley Temple.

When Toi's family moved to Virginia, she was just eleven years old; soon, she would be a pre-teen and then a teenager. Toi always seemed to be very mature for her age and sometimes a little too serious to her peers, but when she wanted to, Toi could really be a lot of fun. She was known for her dancing skills whenever she would let loose at a party and as always, she was a great conversationalist, especially if the topic was movies, music, or TV.

During high school, Toi's literary interest began to expand. She started reading many classic stories such as the original stories and plays of Peter Pan, novels such as To Kill a Mocking Bird, many works of Shakespeare and Edgar Allan Poe. Also during her brief high school career, Toi ventured out and explored other interest as she worked towards an early graduation. She became involved in math and science related after school activities and took technology-based electives. She also began to feed an interest in foreign languages, taking Spanish courses and being involved in multicultural activities.

When it was time for Toi to go off to college, she and her mother managed to find an in-state school that was far enough away from home, for her to have the true college experience. She attended what is now called The University of Virginia's College at Wise. It was during this time at Uva-Wise that Toi met her future husband, Eric Thomas. As if the fact that they both had the same last name wasn't enough to bring the two together, their mutual love of food, music, comic books, and movies was. Though Toi and her husband shared many common interest, they were very much opposites, an attribute that made their union all the more special.

After seven years of marriage and a handful of career changes, Toi now works as a teacher's assistant in Virginia Beach. While Toi finds her job to be very rewarding, she never seems to let up on the other things she finds of interest in her life. Toi constantly bakes goodies and treats for friends and family, and takes the extra effort to assist with computer issues whenever she can. While Toi's love of movies will never fade, she also makes time to read a good book from time to time. Some of her more memorable recent reads include: Ender's Game, The Hunger Games Series, The Wicked Series, Night Circus, and The Gryphon Series.

It was in the fall of 2009 that Toi got the inspiration to write her first book. She was having a reoccurring dream about a gray man who wanted to be an angel. She began to write down bits and pieces of her dreams, whenever she could remember them. Soon Toi had pages and pages of notes that she decided to turn into a story. Her first novel is just one part of the whole story she plans to someday share with the world as, The Eternal Curse Series. To learn more about this series, check out these You Tube videos: (one of my faves below) ❤ ❤ ❤

Toi is also working on other stories outside of the EC series and has been actively blogging, interviewing, and reviewing for three years and sees no point in stopping any time soon.

"Huff’s novel took me to a different place, where daily life is somehow seen as only a surface-rippling manifestation of its beyond and beneath... the book moved me ever so swiftly between portals of worlds somehow far distant, yet juxtaposed, in time and space to each other.
